This site is part of my ToolBoxHero Organization. ToolBoxHero consists of TodaysMower.comMovingSnow.com,FixItHerself.com, and ToolBoxHero.com Each site has a specific purpose, yet each site is part of my goal to help you find the right product for your home and how to use that product.  I’m here to have fun and help you in the process!

Who am I and why would you trust me.

Hi, I’m Paul.

This site is for my daughter, Sarah.  Sarah is all grown up now and her and her husband Eric now own a duplex.  I have a lot of knowledge that I would like to give her about homes, and fixing them but I have one problem.

She lives 350 miles from me.

So I decided the best way to give her my knowledge is to build a website and talk about the things I would like to teach her.  You are welcome to join in and read ……. and help.

Of course Sarah and Eric already know a lot.  She owns Dutch Girl Photography and is an up and coming photographer.

Eric knows more about computers than most and owns Peterson Computer Consulting

I’m a PRACTICAL Homeowner. I would rather buy my own tools and do the work myself, than hire someone and eat into my savings or have lots of debt.   I buy the best quality tools and materials I can afford, but I shop around to find the best quality for the price.

For example, I know that to have someone remodel our kitchen and install new kitchen cabinets I would spend $30,000 to $50,000.
I know if I did the remodeling myself and bought premade kitchen cabinets I would spend $20,000. I know buying my own equipment and materials, learning to use that equipment and then making my own I will have exactly the kitchen I want for around $5,000.

I understand you may know more about tools than I do or you may know nothing about them, but in either case I won’t assume or stereotype you. I listen to what you want to do and then show you two or three ways to do it. I listen to you, understand understand the task you want to do and will teach you how to do or repair.

I’m the guy in True Value or Sears you feel comfortable with. I have the answers and I’m not afraid to tell you, “I don’t know.”  You learn to trust me and know I will sell you the tool, paint or supplies that work the best for your situation, not the most expensive or something “pink”

I have tools that are 100 years old and tools I bought yesterday. I have my own tools I use everyday by DeWalt, Craftsman, Black & Decker, Ryobi, Stanley, Snap On, Wilton, Rocklear, Rigid, Cresent, Ideal, Skil, Milwaukee, and many more.

I have all the tools I need and rent the ones I can’t afford.

I can run a Bobcat, skid steer, backhoe, chipper, stump grinder, and trencher.

I tune-up and repair my own lawn mower, garden tractor and riding lawnmower.

I can teach you the right way to sharpen lawnmower blades.

I own stuff with gas and diesel engines.

I’m learning to build my own kitchen cabinets.

I have remodeled four houses. I have built my own garage and sheds.

My expertise.

I own toolboxhero.com/, todaysmower.com/, and movingsnow.com/. You find me around the web on discussion boards like community.craftsman.com/discussion_boards, http://community.homedepot.com/ and blackanddecker.com/Projects-Advice.aspx.  I have  over 30 years experience teaching tool use to industrial electricians, mechanics and homeowners. While teaching I had business owners and officials from over 30 countries visit my training programs and use the training materials to develop their own programs to train electricians and maintenance mechanics.

Here are a few more bullet points:

> I grew up on a small dairy farm so I had to learn about fixing my own stuff. My car, the farm equipment, the trucks, the house, the fences.

We didn’t have the money to buy new so we bought used and kept it running as long as possible. I still carry that basic belief, if I can’t fix it myself, learn how to.

> I worked for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad for a few years fixing track and railroad cars. I learned most of my metalworking and welding skills there.

> I worked in Nuclear Power for over 20 years. First as an electrician and then as a trainer.
I taught elelctricians, mechanics and their supervisors the basic skills needed to maintain and repair those huge power plants.

> After taking a buyout from that utilty company I started and built a 400 property lawn maintenance company. I owned it for 7 years and sold it in 1999.

> I spent 5 years driving over-the-road semi’s all over the United States. It takes a very special person to be away from home for weeks at a time and it only took me that long to figure that out.

> I’ve worked in retail stores, in hardware stores and tool stores.

> I have remodeled three houses and am currently woking on the 4th. My wife and I do all the work ourselves.
